About Us

Who we are

COA-CONE was established as a direct response to personal experience, inspiration, and an unwavering commitment to making a meaningful impact. Founded by Dr Chinenye Anetekhai (née Ogbogu-COA), a registered nurse with extensive experience in a burns unit at the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Enugu State, Nigeria, this charity emerged from the urgent need to address the severe physical, emotional, and psychological burdens that burn injuries inflict on patients and their families. Among many cases encountered, one story stood out, igniting the vision that would serve as the foundation for COA-CONE.

The turning point was the case of an 11-year-old girl who endured devastating burns—injuries that were not only severe but entirely preventable. This tragic experience highlighted a critical need for education and awareness to avert similar crises in the future. The girl’s plight became the driving force behind COA-CONE’s mission: to empower individuals and communities with knowledge that protects them from the life-altering consequences of burn injuries.

Additionally, COA-CONE stands as a tribute to the cherished memory of Dr Chukwuemeka Nnayelugo Ogbonnaya Ezinwa (CONE), a distinguished burns and plastic surgeon. Dr Ezinwa’s unwavering dedication to burn patient care and his relentless pursuit of knowledge profoundly shaped Dr Anetekhai’s resolve to create lasting change. COA-CONE embodies this legacy, instilling a culture of compassion, innovation, and excellence into its mission.

Through its initiatives, COA-CONE is determined to turn hard-earned lessons into an impactful movement that saves lives, empowers communities, and eradicates preventable tragedies. We firmly believe in the transformative potential of education as the cornerstone of injury prevention. The charity is registered with the CAC.
